Shock Me Saturday

Fun or None?

Last day! Shock Me Saturday is where I tell you five facts that may shock you. Or may not. Hopefully, they will!

  1. Two years ago, I absolutely hated reading. I have no idea what turned me into such a Fiction Freak.
  2. For the past year my internet has been insanely slow. So I go to the library EVERY DAY to keep my blog up and running! Lol.
  3. I'm barely passing ELA. Ugh. What can I say, I had a mean teacher.
  4. My mom thinks I have a disease because evenif I hated book 1 in a series, I have an itch to buy book 2.
  5. I am honestly scared shitless to ask publishers for ARCs. I'm amazed that I actually received some!

Finally Friday

Fun or None?
Day 5! Today is FINALLY FRIDAY which means it's my first day of SUMMER VACATION!!! EEEK! But anyways, today's post is about the ten books I'm counting down to and why. Click on the title to show the Goodreads page. Here we go (in no particular order):

The Treachery of Beautiful ThingsThe Treachery of Beautiful Things by Ruth Frances Long
The book sounds so much like Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series and most of you should know that that's my absolute favorite series. So when I heard of this, I was instantly hooked! Did I mention I love fey stories?

Venom by Fiona Paul
Venom (Secrets of the Eternal Rose, #1)
This book just sounds so alluring. Mystery, romance, and hello? Renaissance time period? Of course I want it! And that cover is just so beauitful! Is that wrong to judge a book by its cover?

Defiance by C.J. Redwine
Defiance (Defiance, #1)I love the "rebel good girl" thing here. And we all know that kickass heroines are awesome, right? Right. And then there's the romance. I love love love stories where the love interest has no idea about his feelings until it's too late. I mean, even though it's annoying, the revelation scene is always just so cute!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)This sounds like the Study series and Grave Mercy combined to me. Of course, both were favorites so again, I'm interested in how htis will turn out. A girl assassin? Hmmm....I feel as if it might be more interesting if it was a guy assassin and a princess, but I'm still curious as to how the story will go.

Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson
Valkyrie RisingThe fact that this book is about Valkyries is good enough. I mean, with all these awesome paranormal stories coming out, it's hard to find a creature that hasn't been used a million times. Even mermaids are getting out of hand!

Mystic City by Theo Lawrence
Mystic City (Mystic City, #1)This sounds intriguing, expecially with the apparent amnesia and the mystery of why she was engaged with her family's rival. Definitely my type of story!

Fractured Light by Jocelyn Davies
A Fractured Light (A Beautiful Dark, #2)I honestly thought that A Beautiful Dark would just end. That the story would stop there. I mean, the main character died (or so I thought.) so how would the story end? I'm so happy that it isn't and I can't wait for this next installment! And more Asher, too!

Touching the Surface by Kimberly Sabatini
Touching the SurfaceThis story seems definitely original with its afterlifesetting and the love triangle. And again, the cover is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I'm also curious as to what the painful memories are...and who she may have murdered.

Timekeeper by Alexandra Monir
Timekeeper (Timeless, #2)I absolutely loved Timeless so when I heard that the sequel was coming out this year, I was ecstatic! Witht he ending of Timeless I'm definitely longing for this to be released. After all, IS he the same person?

Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa
The Lost Prince (The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten, #1)If you've bee following my blog for a while, you'll know that my absolute favorite series is the Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa. So when I heard that she was planning a spin-off series with Ethan (Oh my, doesn't he look all grown up in that cover) it automatically became one of my "longing for" books!

Trilogy Thursday!

Fun or None?

Day four? Already? Well I better polish off all those reviews and giveaways! Anyways, today is Trilogy Thursday where I give you three trilogies and three reasons why I like them. Of course, since I can't find a trilogy where ALL THREE books are out, I'm doing a trilogy where only 1 or 2 books have been released.

Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins
  • This book (book one only has been released) was absolutely breathtaking and beautiful.
  • The writing was wonderful and the senteces flowed into each other; there was never an akward moment.
  • The characters! They fit perfectly in their roles...expecially Kaidan!
Hereafter Series by Tara Hudson
  • The ghost story was original--at least to me, but I havne't read many ghost stories.
  • I loved the character of Amelia, and the ghostly part of this story made a lot of sense unlike others
  • The plot was interesting although I have to admit, most of it was based on the romance of this stor.
Tempest Series by Tracy Deebs
  • I love mermaid stories so much! Might have something to do with the fact that the Little Mermaid was one of my favorite Disney princesses ever!
  • I loved that Tracy Deebs added in selkies. Another one of my favorite creatures, but they aren't used as much as I like.
  • Kona.

Author Interview: Shannon Duffy

Spectral
Another author interview, this time with the author of the original book, Spectral! Spectral is an amazing book so you should definitely check it out.

Fiction Freak: What inspired Spectral?
Shannon Duffy: What inspired SPECTRAL, was I guess first wanting to write a book about witches. I like to write what I like to read and after reading some witch books and loving them, I decided to give it a try. Then when I couldn’t sleep one night, the idea was born.

FF: What is your funniest moment?
SD:One of my funniest moments when looking back on it was when my sister and I were kids. We were on a family vacation in Florida and decided to make up a fake language. Completely random, gibberish, but we totally believed it sounded real. We actually went around “talking” to people and each other, pretending we were these foreigners with a fancy language. The people kindly went along pretending we weren’t insane faking, and we thought it was the funniest thing. I still laugh about it today.

FF:Spectral is a parnormal/romance, correct? What made you want to write this kind of genre?
SD: SPECTRAL is paranormal romance. I wanted to write this genre because it is one of my favorite genres. I tend to read a lot of paranormal and dystopian. When I was a kid, I read tons of fantasy. So, those genres are what I’ve been writing. It just seems natural to write what you love to read.

FF:Where do you find yourself 5 years in the future?
SD: In five years I’ll probably still be writing. Sometimes I think I’ll stop, but I just like to take a couple months off in between books, and then the itch creeps in. I’ll playing it by ear though, and as long as my muse stays alive, I’ll continue to write.

FF: Why write YA fiction?
SD:Why Ya fiction? Again, because I love to read it. I love the angsty-ness of the teen years. It’s fun to read and write. I remember those days well myself. J

FF:What do you, as the writer, gain?
SD:I gain first of all an adrenaline rush when I write. There’s nothing like it really when you get on a roll. Also, if even one person loves what I wrote, it makes me smile. It’s a great feeling to create something that others can enjoy. It’s a real sense of satisfaction.

FF: What is one YA book you'd recommend?
SD: Only one? Well, one of my favorite YA books is Delirium by Lauren Oliver

FF: Favourite scene in Spectral and why?
SD: Ooh, Favorite scene in SPECTRAL? Wow, that’s a good one. Hmmm, I think one of them is a scene at a party at Taylor’s house, where something interesting happens to Jewel, and she’s able to get some revenge. Also, the tension at the end of that chapter is intense. I can’t give details cause it would be a spoiler alert! Haha

FF: What do you think of the tour so far?
SD: I’m enjoying the tour so far. You guys have lots of questions and enquiring minds. It’s humbling that people want to host me and my book on their blogs. I’m very thankful.

Spectral Summary:

Convinced she’s a part of the witness protection program, sixteen-year-old Jewel Rose is shuffled around the globe with her family like a pack of traveling gypsies. After arriving at lucky home twenty-seven, she stumbles upon a mysterious boy with magical powers claiming to be her guardian . . . and warning of imminent danger. Despite the obvious sparks between them, Jewel discovers a relationship is forbidden, and the more she learns about dark, brooding Roman, she begins to question who she can even believe — the family who raised her, or the supposed sworn protector who claims they’ve been lying to her all along.

As she struggles to uncover who her family has really been running from, she is forced to hide her birthmark that reveals who she is. With new realities surfacing, unexplained powers appearing, and two tempting boys vying for her heart, Jewel battles to learn who she can trust in an ever growing sea of lies, hoping she’ll make it through her seventeenth birthday alive.

Short Author Bio:

Fun or None?

Day three of the Fun or None? Fun Hop! Today? Three books that shocked me and why! (SPOILER POST!)

  • Hallowed by Cynthia Hand (Already Released)
Hallowed (Unearthly, #2)Her mom died!? What? And she's not with Tucker anymore? I'm heartbroken! I was always rooting for Tucker, so when Clara (stupid girl) broke up with him...to say I was shocked is an understatement. And the fact that her dad was an angel? Just shoot me. Wait, it gets even better. Christian is a 3/4 angel too? So that's why they belong together? Pshhh....
  • Rapture by Lauren Kate (Not Yet Released)
Rapture (Fallen, #4)Absolutely beautiful. Since this isn't released, I won't spoil anything too big...but read this line here (By the way, I don't have the book with me at the moment, so this is what I remmebe.r It's not exactly correct): "...as they fell in love for the first--and last--time." GUESS WHAT THAT MEANS. And the other shocker didn't surprise me much since I guessed it. BUT Luce loved Lucifer? Well. That changes things. And we never did find out who broke Cam's heart...
  • Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Obsidian (Lux, #1)What surprised me? Daemon never admitted to liking Kat! Or, at least, not hating her. They never got together! That was basically what shocke dme. And how good it was! But that's besides the point.  Of course, Daemon is still one of my favorite love interests.
