An author interview with the amazing Amy Lignor, author of until Next Time, Book 1 of the Angel Chronicles:
Fiction Freak: What was your reaction when your book was published?
Amy Lignor: Disbelief? Like Robert Pattinson had just come in and asked for my hand in marriage J. (And not everyone’s true love ‘Edward’- just the swoon-worthy actor) No, I suppose you could say that I was filled with hope and excitement that Emily and Matt were finally going to appear in people’s lives.
FF: Who is your absolute favorite YA author? And why?
AM: God, this is hard. I can go for ages with this one, but to just pick one author who represented to me the best YA fiction had to offer was J.K. Rowling, and she always will be. The characters she brought to life brought children and young adults back to reading. She carved a monumental niche into history by giving the public something they, quite obviously, needed, and I truly admire her for that.
FF: Describe your daily writing process.
AM: When beginning a book I look at a month solid of sitting in the dark, listening to music, picturing my characters, and getting to know every fault, tone of voice, desire - everything I can about them. I need to know them before I can tell their story. When I begin to write it’s like a whirlwind. I have no set schedule. I can get up at 1:00 a.m. and begin. I look up at the clock when I swear no more than an hour has passed and yet, there’s my dog, up for his 8:00 a.m. run, and I suddenly realize that I’ve been in that ‘world’ that I’ve created for a very long time. When the words hit, I run for that keyboard.
FF: What's the best and worst part of writing
AM: Best: Watching these characters come alive on the page, and caring about them. From the strong, independent ones to the sarcastic, intelligent ones to the romantic heroes to the worst of humanity - watching every character grow on that page is the best feeling in the world.
Worst: When the story comes to an end. I feel like I have to say goodbye and I don’t want to.
FF:In 5 words tell me what your book has that others don't.
AM: A new point of view!
FF:If your characters came alive what would you say/do?
AM: In my head, they’re already alive, we talk all the time. (No, I don’t need to be locked up. LOL). If they were standing in front of me I would give them a great big hug, a cup of coffee, and talk to them for hours on end. They’ve become my best friends over time and it would be great to be able to spend time with them in ‘real life,’ too. There is one character, however, I would probably sit and drool over and not know what the heck to say.
FF: Say zombies suddenly attacked your house. What would you do?
AM: If I surprised myself and didn’t pass out and become food for them, I would take my dog and run like the wind, hoping my angels were somewhere behind me to take them out.
FF:Funniest moment?
FF: I love humor and I try to find a way to laugh at everything. But I think the one that will always stand out for me was when my five-year-old daughter was watching cartoons and an ad came on that I couldn’t believe was being shown on a Saturday morning. She turned to me and asked what a reptile dysfunction was. Without thinking, I just told her what I saw in my head - a crocodile with a limp.
FF:What is the one school subject you hate the most?
AM: Math. I have NO concept of why we have to take it, seeing as when we grow up we get handed a computer and/or a calculator anyway. Always seemed pointless to me.
FF:Have you ever pranked someone on April Fool's and if you did what did you do?
AM: I was working at a graphic arts company when I was younger and used some bright red ink on my face in order to ’create’ a bit of a nightmare for someone I worked with. I know it was gross, but this was before vampires were all the rage and this person truly believed that they could never be shocked or scared of anything because they loved horror books and movies and had seen it all. Apparently, he hadn’t seen everything J
Until Next Time Blurb:
How does a girl choose between the one who steals her heart and the one who owns her soul?
Matt and Emily were created for a specific job. Raised and trained as the ultimate angel/warrior team, they are sent down to save, defend, judge and forgive, depending on the 'life' they've been assigned. What they don't realize is that the power of human emotions, such as love, anger, passion and fear can take over even the best of souls, causing them to make mistakes and follow paths that lead to confusion and heartache.
When the reason for their training is finally revealed, the angel/warrior team find themselves thrust into a world they know nothing about. Matt takes over the life of Daniel, a young man with a great deal of baggage. Emily becomes Liz, a girl living in a remote village who relies on nothing more than her own strength to survive. A violent storm erupts one night, and framed in the window of Liz's establishment is a frightening face. Let in by the soul of a Good Samaritan, the two visitors bring with them a past full of secrets that could literally change an angel's path and a warrior's plans.
From murder to redemption, this angel/warrior team must find a way to keep the faith they have in each other in a world that's ripping them apart.
