Hey guys! As part of the Glitch Blog Tour, Zoe, our protagonist from Glitch by Heather Anistasiu, will be sharing with use her Top 5 tips to well...
Zoel Q-24’s Top Five Tips to Avoid Deactivation
Getting caught glitching in my society could be grounds for immediately deactivation (i.e. death), so a girl’s gotta have a fair share of tricks up her sleeve. Without further ado, here’s my Top Five Tips to Avoid Deactivation.
- Become an expert at lying.
- When glitching, make sure to look like you’re still Linked. Stare straight ahead, don’t walk too fast, keep all facial features absolutely still and never, ever, let the Regulators see that you’re scared of them.
- Trick number three: avoidance. If you see any officials in black uniforms, turn around and walk the other direction (but not in a way that looks like you are trying to get away them).
- If you lose control of your powers in public, come up with a plausible explanation that does not involve admission of guilt.
- If your number comes up for a regular diagnostic of your implanted hardware (which would inevitably reveal your glitches), you have two options: try to hack into Central Systems to falsify your records, or option two, run like hell, get on the subway and try to get lost in the underground city.
Glitch Blurb
In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.
When Zoe starts to malfunction (or “glitch”), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret so dark it will mean certain deactivation if she is caught: her glitches have given her uncontrollable telekinetic powers.
As Zoe struggles to control her abilities and stay hidden, she meets other glitchers including Max, who can disguise his appearance, and Adrien, who has visions of the future. Both boys introduce Zoe to feelings that are entirely new. Together, this growing band of glitchers must find a way to free themselves from the controlling hands of the Community before they’re caught and deactivated, or worse.
In this action-packed debut, Glitch begins an exciting new young adult trilogy.
