I've been thinking, we all say that there are so many books with vampires and werewolves, but is that true? I mean, sure, there are a lot, butt has anyone else noticed the sudden onslaught of dystopian and original fantasy stories or is it just me? I mean, there's the Selection, Divergent, Shatter Me, Wither, and all of them. I don't know if it's just that I never noticed, or something. Hmmm...anyways, just thought I'd share that. I've been thinking about that question myself. Probably there have always been a lot mor dystopian and original fantasy stories than we realised, but I think whenever a book has got a lot of success, people start searching for more and there are also people who try to jump on the bandwagon. So the vampire/werewolves thing started after Twilight's success and now the dystopia thing probably is a follower of The Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteAnd this phenomenon has, as always, two side: On the one hand it's good that awesome stories are discovered who wouldn't have been that popular without that first success, but on the other hand there are always a lot of bad stories coming up with these book fashion trends, I think. So we need to figure out which book belongs to which category on our own.
I never thought about that! But now that I do, I see what you mean. It IS funny how all of a sudden one genre of books overrides the others, and like you said, some are truly amazing books. There are some that pretty much steal the idea of a different book though.
